The Government announced its intention to distribute £8m in grants to flood hit local councils. Kingston upon Hull City Council, will receive £2.8 million. Doncaster Metropolitan District Council receives £1.6 million and three other Yorkshire authorities will each receive £600,000. East Riding, Wakefield and Sheffield will be handed the grants as part of a £10 million package announced by Gordon Brown.
The Regional Development Agencies have made £2.5 million available in the Yorkshire and Humber and East Midlands regions with a further £1 million being made available to the West Midlands area to aid a recovery in tourism.
