A leading insurance provider has raised concern over the large amounts of people without adequate home insurance.
Royal & Sun Alliance has commissioned a report to investigate why three million Housing Association tenants have not taken out contents insurance on their most important belongings.
The company says the trend is especially worrying since Housing Association tenants are frequently supporting large families and are among the low-income group most likely to be affected by burglary.
'We would like to offer additional products and services to this customer base if there is a need and desire for that,' said Dave Greaves, a spokesman for Royal & Sun Alliance.
With insurance companies wising up to an important social need, there are an increasing number of competitive deals available on contents insurance for tenants.
