Tupperware-type parties allowing women to try out and purchase specialist DIY products will be launched this spring in the UK.
Caroline Barnett-Phillips' Women into Trades firm has won the right to franchise the American Tomboy Tools company, which sells tools for women to use.
Among the products women can try out at a party is a cordless power drill specially designed to fit a woman's hand.
Ms Barnett-Phillips told the Sunday Times: 'The tool parties will enable women to try these tools out in a comfortable, supportive environment.
'It's not just about the hammer or drill, it's about empowering women to be able to do jobs within their own home. It's about taking away the intimidation factor and providing confidence.'
A recent survey by industry analyst Proficiency Group revealed that women make eight out of ten home improvement decisions and six out of ten DIY purchases.
Whoever does the DIY in the home, it is important to have home insurance and contents insurance policies to cover any mishaps that might occur.
