Home insurance needed to cover cold weather costs

With a spell of freezing weather on the way, UK residents would be advised to check they have the best home insurance cover to protect themselves against a variety of seasonal risks.

Insurers are warning that the danger of frozen pipes can strike at even some of the most well-insulated properties, bringing the threat of a sudden home emergency.

In addition, one of the major risks comes from an influx of rats, mice and even squirrels seeking shelter from the cold.

According to research by ICM, more than one in ten UK residents have encountered pests in their homes in the last 12 months, facing steep costs in their attempts to tackle the problem.

Nikki Sellers, head of home insurance at esure, urged homeowners to be extra vigilant, adding that 'eradicating pest problems can be costly and leave homeowners with unexpected hefty bills'.

With snow and ice predicted to set in across the UK, residents should check out the best home insurance deals to guarantee greater peace of mind.
